"Pédalons pour la Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau" event was a succes

On this past August 6th, as part of the celebrations for its 20th anniversary, the St. Bruno Action Sport Physio clinic proposed to the public a big fundraising event to benefit the Charles-Bruneau Foundation. We would like to thank all the participants and donors -- thanks to them, the event raised the terrific sum of $22,000.

I came to Karine with a shoulder pain that had been bothering me for about 6 months. It hurt enough that I couldn't swim my regular 2 km workout anymore. I had tried other physiotherapists, but somehow, they didn't help me get to the point where I could swim again. I had three sessions with Karine over the course of a couple of weeks. She analysed my mobility very carefully and was able to refine and build on the physiotherapy exercises that I was doing previously. With her help, I can swim again. So I am very happy. Thanks so much Karine!

How to rake leaves without hurting yourself!

Raking and collecting leaves is good physical exercise which helps to reinforce muscles, improve posture and reduce the risks of certain pathologies such as osteoporosis. Although pleasant for some, raking leaves is vigorous activity which causes many injuries treated in our clinic.
Raking involves repetitive movements and tireless work combining bending, reaching, twisting and carrying over a long period of time. To prevent this activity from becoming a burden, injuries and overworking the muscles, here are some tips you should follow.

  • Change your heavy old rake for an updated ergonomic version. Look for a light-weight rake with a bent shaft and a padded handle.

  • Warm up and stretch out your muscles.

  • Keep your back straight, your neck muscles relaxed and keep your elbows slightly bent and close to the side of your body.

On Occupational Therapy

with Magalie Rinfret,
occupational therapist and VP, Development and Customer Service at Groupe Ergo Ressources

Do you worry that you will not be able to go back to work?

Following an injury, and a prolonged leave from work, your body might show a decrease in functional abilities. This can prevent you from performing certain tasks at work. Upon returning to work, it is normal to fear that you will reinjure yourself.

Work reintegration sessions with an occupational therapist can help you improve your ability to work, for example, by increasing your tolerance, your handling capacity, or your ability to work with your arms stretched out. Occupational therapy can teach you which posture will help you avoid injury at work. You will then be able to test your capabilities, resume activities at home that you might have stopped and improve your functional abilities.

How Can a Chair Save Your Spine?

In a 21st century office, work typically involves a lot of sitting in an office chair (usually in front of a computer).

Did you know that sitting actually puts more stress on your spine than standing?

To avoid developing lower back problems, it's critical to use an office chair that's ergonomically designed. What does ergonomics mean? It is the applied science of equipment design (in the workplace) intended to maximize productivity by reducing an individual's fatigue and discomfort. An ergonomic chair, for example, is one that supports your lower back and helps maintain good posture.

The big question is - How do we identify the ideal ergonomic office chair?
