Jess has a master’s degree in physiotherapy from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and he is a licensed member of l’Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec (OPPQ).
Born with skates on his feet and a rugby ball in his hands, Jess’ love for sport was sparked at an early age. Fast-forward to his teenage years where Jess played elite levels of both rugby and ice hockey; in order to break away from the competition, Jess spent countless hours every off-season aiming to move better while being less injury-prone. What began to take shape was a profound passion for perfecting human movement, and ensuring the body’s different joints were all primed to maximize performance.
Jess grew up on the West Island and completed his Bachelor of Science at McGill University before venturing overseas to the world’s sporting capital, Melbourne, Australia, to complete his Master of Physiotherapy degree. During this time, Jess had the chance to work with elite-level Australian Rules Football players as part of a team’s sideline therapists, managing players through their injuries and ensuring their return to the field. Since then, Jess has completed a specialization in strength and conditioning through the North American Strength & Conditioning Association, allowing him to take his patients from the clinic beds to the gym floor, where he coaches to bridge the gap between rehab and game-time. Jess is also certified to treat low back pain using the McKenzie method.
Education is the mortar to the bricks of Jess’ treatment model. He believes in patient empowerment, and this is evident in the way he makes sure every patient leaves with a greater understanding of their injury or weakness, allowing the rehabilitation process to continue beyond the walls of the Action Sport clinic. This allows Jess to successfully rebuild his patients, ranging from average Janes and Joes, to weekend warrior soccer stars and all-star quarterbacks.
