I am pleased to be joining the Action Sport Physio team. I have moved to Montreal from Ottawa, where I have been a member of the College of Massage Therapists for 20 years. While in Ottawa, I worked with a chiropractor for 10 years, and then have been in private practice for the last 10 years. During that time, I was the massage therapist “on call” for the visiting artists to the Ottawa National Arts Centre. I look forward to providing professional and competent care to you, your friends and loved ones.
I take the time to listen to your needs and design a treatment plan to attain your goals. I have worked with most physical medical conditions, from acute onset to the chronic stages. Conditions such as headaches, low back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder, hip and knee pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, and pregnancy benefit from massage therapy.
My style of massage therapy is a direct tissue approach. Gentle light techniques are used for acute injuries, such as lymphatic drainage. Medium to firm techniques are used for relaxation and warm-up/warm-down sports massage treatments. Deep tissue techniques are used to treat chronic or poorly healed injuries and for those who prefer them as part of a “relaxation” treatment. I also utilize joint play techniques as needed to free up movement as well.
Over the years, I have taken many seminars and courses to improve my skills. My clients find I’ve developed a unique massage treatment style. During a session, I often work two areas at once, with each hand performing separate tasks, such as working the shoulder with low back, calves with feet, forearm with hand, and scalp with neck. One hand often does deep tissue work to loosen and soften muscles, and the other hand does warm-up/warm-down for other muscles or deep work as well. Most of my clients prefer a mix of styles, with specific deep tissue techniques for their “problem area” that is built into an overall relaxing but firm massage.
In my spare time, I keep busy with many interests and hobbies: playing sports (cross-country skiing, triathlons, hockey,), making art (painting and sculpting), doing woodworking, and renovating my cottage. I am married to internationally acclaimed soprano Donna Brown and have two adult children.
